School hero: Lakhe Mdeliswe of Cedarberg Primary
Every month we highlight a teacher or learner who gets a gold star for being a hero in their school, community or home. This month it’s Lakhe Mdeliswe from Cedarberg Primary in Port Elizabeth.
Heroic act: Community upliftment
Lakhe is a grade 7 pupil who collects clothes and distributes them to children in the community. This was a project that she started on her own after seeing children with worn-out clothes and deciding she wanted to help them.
Mrs Helen Louw, a teacher at Cedarberg Primary, says Lakhe’s efforts to collect clothes inspired a group of children at the school who joined her in the project. Learners are encouraged to bring old clothes they no longer wear to school, and the clothes are taken to a church where they are distributed.
“The response has been amazing and we are hoping to expand this community project. We are all very proud of Lakhe and her team.” – Mrs Louw
The E-classroom team is also very proud of Lakhe and her group. Well done everybody!
